RI 6 Hour
RI 6 Hour Streakers – Bruce Dube
Our next RI 6 Hour Streaker is none other than the infamous Bruce Dube of Swansea, MA. Bruce is the only person in the history of the world that has run every race that I have put on (4 RI 6 Hr’s & 2 RTB Trail Races). Bruce will continue this trend on November 10th, when he steps foot in Warwick City Park for the 5th time. We look forward to having him back! Here is what he had to say…
How did you find out about the first RI 6 Hour? I’m not certain how I found out about the first RI 6 Hour.
What made you want to run it? As an on again, off again recreational runner I had wanted to try something different and the format seemed to fit the bill. A 2.7 mile, supported loop, no set distance to cover, just run what you can in the allotted 6 hours. A perfect opportunity to test your current endurance, and a welcome change from chasing PR’s at other races.
What keeps you coming back? The event was even better than I had expected! At first I wondered about running on a closed 2.7 mile loop for the duration of the event, and the many relay teams were also a concern. Having a relay sprinter zip past you on lap 11 can be somewhat deflating. No worries. The course is ideal for the format, and the relay teams have soo much fun it becomes contagious. Everyone is so supportive of one another, and the aid tent personnel make it feel like you have your own pit crew. .
Any personal goals for the 2013 event? Have fun. Just run, walk, crawl, whatever. This event definitely draws some experienced, and notable, ultra distance runners, but it is equally accessible and enjoyable for back of the packers like myself.
Will you be at the post race party at Track 84? The post race party can’t be missed! Good opportunity to recover with a beer and hang with a great group of runners. Hopefully Bucket Brewery will have some more of their specially brewed “Park Loop Porter” on tap again this year!
